Evan's Story

After serving in the United States Navy as an air traffic controller, I went through a rough patch in life that left me searching for purpose. During a difficult season where I spent six months in jail, I read the Bible cover to cover. Through that time, I grew to love the Lord wholeheartedly, and my perspective shifted from destroying my life daily to serving God daily. I have always loved helping people, and Galveston Urban Ministries gave me the opportunity to channel that calling into meaningful work. They helped me find purpose, balance, and direction in my life. Today, I serve as the Facility Assistant, where I repair and maintain our buildings and vehicles, and lead mission teams on projects that impact our community. Beyond the physical work, I also get to share the gospel, learn more about the Lord, and teach others about Him. Working with Galveston Urban Ministries has not only given me goals and stability but also the joy of serving God’s people in a way that truly fulfills me. My life now reflects purpose, faith, and a deep commitment to both the Lord and my community.

Evan McCarty joined our team in May 2025 after previously serving as a dedicated volunteer. We were drawn to Evan’s strong work ethic and his deep heart for our community. He now serves on staff by managing our facilities and assisting mission teams with work projects that support our neighborhood.
