OUR MISSION

Galveston Urban Ministries is a 501(c)(3) faith-based nonprofit serving Galveston, Texas, dedicated to helping the North Broadway community thrive. From teaching children to read, to preparing adults for the workforce, to training groups across Texas on poverty alleviation strategies, our work centers on one thing: caring for our neighbors and building lasting relationships.

We believe every person deserves to live with dignity — supported by healthy families, meaningful employment, and a strong community. Above all, we want every neighbor we serve to experience the abundant love of Jesus Christ.

The GUM E's: How We Alleviate

Poverty in Galveston

Our approach to poverty alleviation in Galveston is built on three core values — the GUM E's: Engage, Equip, and Empower. These values shape our programs, partnerships, and daily work in the North Broadway neighborhood.

Real change starts with relationships. We engage individuals and families throughout the Galveston community with compassion, respect, and the love of Christ. Whether we're serving neighbors experiencing homelessness or partnering with organizations citywide, we take the time to listen, build trust, and walk alongside people. No one solves poverty alone. Galveston Urban Ministries equips churches, businesses, volunteers, and community partners with the tools and resources they need to serve effectively. By working together, we strengthen the Galveston community and create sustainable solutions to poverty. Our goal is to see our neighbors thrive — spiritually, emotionally, mentally, physically, and socially. We design programs that empower individuals and families to gain stability, build life skills, and create sustainable, God-honoring lives. Empowerment means restoring dignity and helping people move toward lasting hope.
