Jarrett Story

We come we do the School Supply Store. This will be my fifth time doing it. The best part about the School Supply Store is the window that it gives into GUM and everything that they do in the community and in the neighborhood. It's kindness through pencils and erasers and glue sticks. Each one is counted, there's a care to detail and a love for community that I really love to see happen and that's why we want to be a part of it.

It's fascinating because they (students) will say “oh my goodness we have to?” But underneath say “that was really cool to be a part of.” I like to say that we have prayerful hands as we do this because every pencil, every glue stick, every eraser, everything is touched and then prayed for distinctly that's going to end up in somebody's desk. Our students see like a love for neighbor and how to be a good neighbor that is so much more than just benevolence or kindness. It is a kind of love that is a relationship.

Jarrett is the Student Pastor at Heritage Park Baptist Church. Heritage Park has been a missional partner of GUM and has served at the GUM School Supply Store for over five years.
